Etsy Test Drive: LondonsGate

Are you reluctant to make your first etsy purchase?
I'll take etsy for a test drive, and share the results!
If you love vintage watches or steampunk, consider a piece of jewelry from LondonsGate at etsy!

This necklace is super-special to me. Not just because I have a mild interest in steampunk, but because Keith gave it to me on our first Valentines' Day together. Awwww! Although now that I look at their shop a bit closer, I can't believe he bought a Valentines' Day present from a store that also sells jewelry made of goat teeth. SAY WHAT?! Oh well. I like this necklace. It's made of vintage watch parts, and it matches everything. It adds a bit of mystery to any outfit, without ever looking like part of a costume. And after a year and a half, it's still looking lovely.

Let's quantify the etsy love...

Appearance: 4 / 5

This is a conversation piece. The watch parts look beautiful up close. The tiny gears spin, and the two black jewels rotate when the winding stem is turned. It's so cool! But the pendant originally came on a thick silver chain that, in my opinion, detracted from the appearance of the tiny watch parts. So I put the pendant on my own delicate black chain, with tiny dangles that match those on the pendant. This is just a matter of personal opinion, but I think it looks better this way. Other buyers might prefer the sturdier silver chain.

Workmanship: 5 / 5
This is a VERY well-made piece of jewelry. Handmade jewelry often has jaggedly attached links, rough edges, and shoddy workmanship. Not this piece! The shank is seamlessly soldered, the dangle is cleanly attached, and after a year and a half of regular wear, it still looks new.

Service: 5/ 5
Keith says this was a perfect transaction. He paid with Paypal and had no problems. Shipping was inexpensive, and the necklace arrived quickly with "a nice note." He says the packaging was "cute," but he doesn't remember specifics--so if you buy from LondonsGate, expect cute surprise packaging! Keith buys almost everything online, and he can be an impatient customer. Since he remembers no hassles, I'm giving the highest rating.

Overall: 4.83 / 5
I am very pleased with the quality and appearance of my necklace, and I expect to wear it for years to come. If you're looking for steampunk jewelry--or goat tooth jewelry, I guess?!--consider LondonsGate.
