DIY Specimen Jars

Hey all! I'm Laurendy of Laurendy Home. While Jen is off sipping a fruity drink out of a pineapple,  I'm gonna show you how to make some super simple somewhat creepy specimen jars. 'Cause what home is complete without a few specimen jars laying around.

I am all about simple DIYs, and this one is pretty much foolproof.

  • clean glass jar
  • some black paint
  • green food coloring
  • one of those "Grows 600%" toys you can pick up at a party supply store or a dollar store

Put the brain (or whatever "Grow 600% toy you have) in your jar. . .

. . . and add water. . .

. . . while you are waiting for your brain (or whatever) to grow, go ahead and paint the jar lid black, well you can paint it whatever color you'd like, but I like black . . .

. . . watch your brain grow, it takes a few days to get full sized, so don't get antsy. . .

. . . add just a single drop of green food coloring into the jar, stir it around, then screw on the jar lids and you BAM!

You've got yourself some creepy specimen jars just in time for Halloween!

I wish I could take full credit for this idea, but I can't. I stole it from my little sister. I went to visit her at college and there in her dorm room sat these two creepy little jars -

  1. Hi there, thanks for stopping by, I know many of my younger cousins will be dying to try this out to scare everyone off! Cool idea

  2. Gross, and so fun! I love the "wise owl" label, too. Thank you so much for guest posting. :)

  3. The Wise Owl label is available as a download over on my blog ;)
